Kitchen/Dining area, Worthing, West Sussex
Victorian terraced property located just two hundred yards from Worthing Beech. The existing property had two reception rooms and a small kitchen. The clients brief was to create a large open plan area to the rear aspect with plenty of light. Having carried out the feasibility study we proposed a single story pitched roof extension to wrap around the existing rear facade, by removing two internal walls this created additional space for the proposed scheme
Within the external walls additional windows and folding doors were used to open up kitchen and dining area. Electrically operated Velux windows were placed within the pitched roof to provide more natural lighting
This open plan design created a feeling of space with 21st century feel whilst keeping the Victorian character of the property
Loft Conversion, Worthing West Sussex
Due to an expanding family our client required additional space, moving was not an option and the garden area could not accommodate additional structures
By incorporating an additional staircase off the first floor landing into the existing loft space, a double bedroom with en-suite comprising of a shower, hand basin and toilet was formed. Our structural engineer provided calculations for the newly formed floor and roof supports to the existing roof
In this case the roof apex provided good head height internally, dormer windows were not required. Adequate light and ventilation were achieved by providing two Velux windows within the existing roof pitch (slope)
Note: In many cases dormer windows will be required to gain head height internally, this will incur additional construction costs
*Recent surveys suggest that by adding a loft room, not only adds value to your home but can often be cheaper than moving house
